Josh Allen, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ top defensive end, will wear a different jersey in 2024 after signing a five-year, $150 million contract extension. “I have decided to alter my last name. “My name is Joshua Hines-Allen, and I play defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars,” the 26-year-old announced. “You know, I’ve always been a Hines, and the legacy will last forever. Family is significant to me because when you come from a family with a long history of athletes, and I am the youngest, going to all of my sister’s games and knowing what my uncles did in college and in the NBA means a little more. It was practically destiny for me to follow in their footsteps.”

Hines-Allen is the youngest of six.

has four older sisters and one twin brother. One of the two-time Pro Bowler’s sisters is Myisha Hines-Allen, a forward for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA, while another sister, LaTorri Hines-Allen, played Division I basketball at Towson University. One of his other sisters, Kyra Hines-Allen, played Division II basketball at Cheyney University in Pennsylvania. The defensive star also has an uncle, Gregory Hines, who attended Hampton University and was taken in the fifth round of the 1983 NBA Draft but never played in the league.

The edge rusher is largely regarded as Jacksonville’s greatest defensive player, having established career highs in quarterback hits (33), tackles for loss (17), and sacks (17.5) in 2023. Hines-Allen made his first Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2019,

He received his second accolade last season.

The former seventh overall pick’s 17.5 sacks in 2023 set a franchise record and tied for second in the NFL, 1.5 behind Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt.
