The latest transfer news, as Championship rivals Middlesbrough are linked with a West Brom player.
Middlesbrough have reportedly explored signing West Bromwich Albion midfielder John Swift this summer.
The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, which is estimated to be paid £22,500 per week according to Capology, and West Brom are eager to sell, allowing Boro to swoop. Swift joined Albion on a free transfer from Reading in 2022 and has 16 goals and 11 assists in 89 appearances. Two contrasting reports have emerged regarding Boro’s plan for Swift. Football Insider claimed on Tuesday afternoon that interest had been registered with a raid being plotted. The Northern Echo, however, suggests Swift was discussed in a recruitment meeting at the end of last
season but won’t be pursued any further. The latter report states it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for that situation to change but Boro boss Michael Carrick is happy with his current midfield crop as it stands. West Brom’s willingness to sell could spring up interest from elsewhere, so Boro would have to move quickly if they adjust their stance. Swift played a slightly reduced role for West Brom past season, scoring nine goals while spending most of his time on the bench. Due to increased game time for wonderkid Tom Fellows, skipper Jed Wallace frequently filled in at number 10, leaving Swift as an impact substitute. The Chelsea academy graduate has 54 goals and 50 assists in 299 Championship games. He has been largely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the English second division, particularly following his final season at Reading, during which he scored 11 goals and helped 13.
