Birmingham City are hoping to recruit Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Styles spent last season on loan at Sunderland and is poised to leave Barnsley during the ongoing transfer window. Championship clubs have expressed interest in signing the Hungarian midfielder this summer. However, it has been reported that Birmingham are planning an audacious move to sign Styles ahead of the new season.
Blues are eager to bounce right back up after being demoted from the Championship to League One last season, and have funds to spend.
Styles is a player they like, and they are willing to spend the money to upgrade their squad this summer.
He is in the final year of his contract and is available for a cost of approximately £500,000.
Birmingham have also been trying to recruit Scott Twine, but have yet to agree on a cost with Burnley and face competition from Bristol City.
