Reading FC are thought to be hoping to complete a loan agreement to bring Southampton striker Dom Ballard back to the club.
Reading Today reports that Royals manager Ruben Selles is eager to bring the 19-year-old back to Berkshire after his previous tenure was cut short due to injury.
Ballard scored five goals in 12 appearances for the club during the first half of the previous season, until his patella tendon snapped in November of last year, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.
After completing his rehabilitation, the England youth international will be fit and ready to begin the new season, with Reading eager to re-sign him.
Reading FC want to re-sign Southampton striker Dom Ballard.
Although things didn’t pan out well in the long term, Ballard started out life at the Madejski Stadium in excellent form, scoring twice in a 9-0 thrashing of Exeter City in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy in only his second game for the club. With the Royals floundering owing to financial concerns that limited their transfer business, it was a difficult start to the season for everyone affiliated with the Berkshire club, albeit Ballard shone at times.
Further goals against Northampton Town and Fleetwood Town gave him hope for the upcoming difficult season, while his final goal for the club gave his side a 2-0 lead against Shrewsbury Town, only for the Shropshire side to come back and win.
Unfortunately, the striker’s promising start to the season was cut short by an injury, as he lasted less than half an hour at Adams Park before snapping his patellar tendon and terminating his season on the spot.

Couhig, who sold his stakes in the Chairboys during the previous season, appears ready to return to football this summer, with conversations progressing over the last week. Royals fans will be hoping to see the back of current owner Yongge, as the Chinese tycoon has put everyone linked with the club through the wringer in recent years, with points deductions and transfer embargoes regular at the Madejski.
Reading’s place in the EFL has slipped over time, with relegation from the Championship confirmed in 22/23, after fighting to keep their League One status for much of the previous campaign.
While the club is currently undergoing a transfer Despite the embargo, they can still sign free agents or loan players in preparation for the 2018 third-tier season.
