Wolves have until the end of July to trigger Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi’s release clause, according to reports.
Elvedi has been a Bundesliga regular since coming from FC Zurich in 2015, amassing over 300 appearances in all competitions.
The 53-time Switzerland international, who was an unused replacement during his country’s Euro 2024 campaign, has always been praised for his ability to play out of the back. Elvedi completed 1,500 passes in the Bundesliga last season, which was at least 189 more than any other Gladbach player.
However, Elvedi is a player who has frequently been linked with a move away from Borussia-Park. Wolverhampton Wanderers, a Premier League club, are reportedly interested in signing the 27-year-old as a replacement for Max Kilman, who just joined West Ham United.
With Kilman’s departure, Wolves now have only four senior centre-backs registered in their squad: Toti, Santiago Bueno, Craig Dawson, and Yerson Mosquera, the latter of whom returned to the club this summer after a loan spell at Villarreal.
Wolves must act quickly to secure the Elvedi contract.
According to Sky Sports Germany (via Get Football News Germany), Wolves can now sign Elvedi for just €10 million.
However, it is known that his release clause is only effective until the end of July. After that, the Midlands club would most certainly have to pay a far bigger fee, as Elvedi was a crucial player for Die Fohlen, starting 28 of their 34 Bundesliga games in 2023/24.
