With NBA free agency stalled, most basketball fans have moved their attention to Summer League.
The Dallas Mavericks began their Summer League voyage with a close loss to the Utah Jazz, but some of their young players demonstrated that they can contribute to Dallas soon. Brandon Williams finished with 21 points, while second-round pick Melvin Ajincca had 13 points. There are a lot of players on the Mavs Summer League team who might make the final roster, but Dallas needs to be strategic about how they use that slot.
Mavericks bring in Malachi Flynn for a workout, following rumored interest.
They are apparently looking to improve their backcourt depth off the bench, and Malachi Flynn is one player they have been linked to. The initial reports of Dallas’ interest in Flynn date back to earlier this month, and according to Dalton Trigg of Dallas Basketball, the Mavs had worked him out.
This demonstrates Dallas’ interest in Flynn from earlier this month, and they continue to consider who they want to sign with that final roster space.
They have expressed interest in a number of guards, including Spencer Dinwiddie, Dennis Smith Jr., and Flynn, but there are also indications that they will likely re-sign Markieff Morris. Most people may overlook this 15th roster place, but there is undoubtedly an opportunity for this club to grow. Dallas is coming off a loss in the NBA Finals, and the correct move here might help raise their roster even further.

He is a confident player who shoots well both off the catch and off the dribble. There is clearly some interest in Flynn, since the Mavs worked him out, and only time will tell whether Dallas decides to work him out.
