On March 9, an incident occurred in Rotherham’s town centre as football fans were returning home.

Detective Chief Inspector Jude Ashmore, who led the investigation, stated: “At 4.40pm, Mr Dix was punched by Beech and fell to the ground. He unfortunately never recovered consciousness.”While Mr Dix lay hurt and unconscious on the floor, Playforth can be seen running towards him and placing his foot on his head. He needed to be pulled away and restrained by others. Green then kicks the victim in the middle of his body while he is on the ground.

Mr Dix was treated on the scene by paramedics and sent to the hospital by air ambulance. Despite their attempts, he died of his injuries one week later, on March 16, 2019.

DCI Ashmore stated, “Beech confessed delivering the blow that resulted in Mr Dix’s fatal injury, but claimed throughout that he acted in self-defense. It was a lie. Mr Dix was the completely innocent victim of a violent and unwarranted attack.
