SAD NEWS : Iowa Hawkeyes football confirmed key player death

The previous Honorable Mention The All-Big Ten offensive lineman was engaged to be married after retiring from football due to injury. Cody Ince, a former University of Iowa offensive lineman who was engaged to be married after retiring from football, was discovered dead at the age of 23 on July 15 at his Wisconsin home.

Ince’s cause of death was unknown, but his obituary stated that he died “unexpectedly” at home in Grantsburg. Ince, who received honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in 2020, is survived by his fiancée, Olivia Tucker, parents Marty and Tammy, and sister Carly.

Longtime Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz paid tribute to Ince in a statement posted on the Iowa football Twitter website.

“I am incredibly sad to hear about Cody Ince’s sudden passing,” Ferentz told the audience. “Cody was an outstanding young man, a valuable teammate, and an asset to our program.

“He loved football, fishing and hunting, and believed in the importance of family and friendships,” he told me. “Cody was just beginning this next chapter of his life and was about to be married.”

Ince appeared in 29 games, starting 10 of them, from 2018 to 2021. According to The Athletic, injuries forced him to resign last year before pursuing a potential NFL career.

“Mary and I are heartbroken for his fiancée, his family and all his friends who knew and loved him,” Ferentz told CNN. “All of us in the football program — his coaches and teammates — are mourning his loss.”

Wide receiver Tyrone Tracy Jr., Ince’s former Iowa teammate, paid tribute to his friend in a remark on his obituary.

“I have had the honor of knowing and playing with Cody while I was at the University of Iowa,” he stated in his letter. “He was not only a fantastic teammate, but also an incredible individual! He was always smiling and cracking jokes, yet he took his work on the field seriously, which I liked about him. “He was often bringing in deer jerky or sunflower nuts, and he made sure I received some every time. I’ll remember the simple things! “Thank you, Cody, for being such an amazing person and friend!”
