GAINESVILLE, Florida – Talia Neilson-Gatenby has committed to play for the Florida women’s tennis team in 2024, according to head coach Roland Thornqvist. Neilson-Gatenby is from Great Britain and trains at the LTA’s National Academy in Loughborough.
Roland Thornqvist comments on Neilson-Gatenby’s addition: “We are happy to announce the recruitment of Talia, one of the most brilliant juniors I’ve seen on the international scene and a great young woman to help us win yet another National Championship. This signing class is shaping up to be one of the most comprehensive we’ve had in years, and Talia will have the opportunity to make a significant impact right away.”
On the ITF circuit, Neilson-Gatenby earned a career-high No. 541 global ranking in singles and a No. 896
In doubles. In May, Talia Neilson-Gatenby won the 15k ITF doubles tournament in Monastir. The victory was her maiden ITF World Tour doubles title.
Neilson-Gatenby competed in the 15k ITF Sharm El Sheikh and W15 Monastir singles events earlier this year. In both competitions, she made it to the quarterfinals and defeated top-5 seeds.
Neilson-Gatenby qualified for Wimbledon juniors in 2022 by reaching the finals of the 18 & Under Junior National Title. Neilson-Gatenby advanced to the second round of the renowned competition before losing to Annabelle Xu, an ITA All-American and first-team All-ACC player at Virginia.
