Andy Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach, feels Taylor Swift should put his tight end Travis Kelce to work.
Kelce, 35, and the pop singer, also 35, have made headlines over the last year for their love story.
The diva took center stage at numerous NFL games last season to cheer on her husband and the Chiefs on their way to Super Bowl success, but this offseason it been Kelce’s turn to play the supporting role.
During the foreign legs of Swift’s sold-out Eras Tour, the three-time Super Bowl winner sung and shimmied his way through several of the gigs, even making an on-stage cameo.
However, Reid said that the football star could be doing more than just shaking.
It ended in the VIP tent. ‘He can hang out there and be the support or the waterboy,’ Reid said on The Athletic’s Scoop City podcast.
On Night 3 of Swift’s sold-out Eras Tour event in London, he appeared on stage as part of the backup dance crew and wowed the crowd. As the 90,000-strong audience roared, he scooped Swift off her feet and carried her across the stage.
The move, like almost everything the power couple does, sparked a media storm, with supporters praising Kelce’s gesture.
But Reid dismissed any concerns about the increased attention surrounding his player as the Chiefs returned to training camp this week.
‘I believe it’s fantastic for him. He can handle it. In fact, I believe he enjoys it to a certain extent. Reid discussed Kelce’s fame with hosts Dianna Russini and Chase Daniel, saying, “I think there’s a great escape for him.” I also stated something about Taylor. I mean, when she comes to the game, she can sort of avoid being the center of attention. When he attends her concerts, she is the star, he continued.
‘Their podcast is ridiculous, so he’s received a lot of attention for that,’ Reid added, referring to Travis and his
Listen to brother Jason Kelce’s podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce. ‘He’s an outgoing individual. I mean, when he enters a room, he lights it up. Everybody is his best friend. ‘Until you prove him wrong, everyone’s a friend,’ Reid said of Travis.
‘He can handle it; he hasn’t been given anything he can’t handle,’ he insisted.
