BREAKING NEWS : £33 million Brighton most expensive new signing will fly to Japan for pre-season trip this month.

Yankuba Minteh will fly to Japan for Brighton & Hove Albion’s pre-season trip this month.
This comes after the 19-year-old signed a £33 million club record transfer from Newcastle United late last month. Minteh becomes the club’s third most expensive player sale, trailing only Elliot Anderson and Andy Carroll (both worth £35 million).
Minteh’s transfer helped Newcastle comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules because they were able to sell the winger for a significant profit after moving from Odense, Denmark, last summer. United paid less than £7 million for the Gambian in June 2023 before swiftly loaning him out to Feyenoord, where he had a successful loan spell. Minteh scored 11 goals in 37 games for the Rotterdam club, including one in the Champions League. He also helped Feyenoord win the KNVB Cup despite getting sent off in the final. The sale of Minteh to Brighton, despite representing a considerable profit for the club, was not as lucrative as it appeared on paper due to a deal struck with Odense last year.

According to the Gazette, Odense put a sell-on clause into the transfer agreement with Newcastle, entitling the club to a seven-figure payoff if Minteh made the major move to Brighton. Sell-on clauses for young players are customary in football deals, although it is unclear whether Newcastle has struck such an agreement with Brighton for Minteh.

The winger might meet his previous club when Brighton play Newcastle at St James’ Park in the Premier League on October 19.
