Three years after leaving school early to pursue an NBA ambition, Duke basketball’s DJ Steward has discovered the ideal opportunity. He is small for his position. He quit school too soon. Overall, he’s a cheap two-guard. That’s what detractors have said about former five-star prospect DJ Steward since he left Durham after one season at Duke.
What those critics may have overlooked is pure resolve. Never give up. Steward’s performance in the category is exceptional.
So, around 36 hours after scoring 37 points in an NBA 2K25 Summer League game for the Chicago Bulls in Las Vegas, all of the hard work paid off in the form of an official regular season contract with the league.
Better better, it is in Chicago, DJ Steward’s hometown. to Sunday morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski announced that Steward “has agreed on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls.” Steward, who went undrafted in 2021 after averaging 13.0 points per game for Duke’s disappointing 2020-21 team, has spent the last three seasons in the G League, improving from year to year.
Keep in mind that the 6-foot-2, 165-pound sniper will most likely spend the majority of his time in the G League next season. This time around, however, the 22-year-old DJ Steward is very certain to be called up to the big show on occasion and make his NBA regular season debut.
