New York is in a position to add during the upcoming trade deadline. The Miami Marlins will be an interesting team to watch over the coming week.
Miami had hoped to take another step forward and fight for a postseason place again, but that will not be the case this season. Injuries have completely decimated the Marlins, and they have never quite found their footing.
The Marlins have struggled as a result, and they are evident sellers. Miami moved Luis Arráez to the San Diego Padres months ago, and it appears that fellow All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. will also be traded before the July 30th trade deadline.
Chisholm may benefit any competitor, but SNY’s Danny
Abriano identified the New York Mets as a potential option for a “big swing” at the deadline. “If they want to take a big swing, the Mets can call the (Chicago White Sox) about Luis Robert Jr., who is signed through 2025 and has club options for 2026 and 2027,” he said. “Or they can ask the Marlins about Jazz Chisholm Jr., who will almost certainly get dealt but will be very expensive to acquire — Chisholm is arbitration-eligible through 2026 and is incredibly inexpensive (he’s making just $2.625 million this season).” Chisholm has played both center field and second base this season and would be an immediate enhancement for New York. He might take over as the starting second baseman and shake up the order. So far this season, he has 13 home runs, 45 RBI, 19 stolen bases, and a.251/.322/.411 batting line in 96 games.
