HITC Sport reports that Portsmouth, Millwall, and Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Luton Town attacker John McAtee.
This summer, all three Championship clubs have entered the competition to recruit the Luton Town player. He has returned to Kenilworth Road for pre-season after spending the previous season on loan at Barnsley in League One. McAtee, 24, was allowed permission to spend the entire previous season at Oakwell and was a success during his time in South Yorkshire. He scored 13 goals in 40 games in all competitions for the Tykes, helping them reach the playoffs.
In this newest update over his future in this window, HITC Sport report Portsmouth, Millwall, and Blackburn Rovers
Everyone wants to make a move for him. The player, however, appears to be in high demand, with Plymouth Argyle, Wrexham, Derby County, and Bolton Wanderers among the clubs expressing interest. McAtee, who began his career with Shrewsbury Town, has been linked with Portsmouth, Millwall, and Blackburn Rovers. He gained experience during loan spells with AFC Telford United, Ashton United, and Curzon Ashton.
He then departed the Shrews on a permanent basis, spending two years with Scunthorpe United before joining Grimsby Town in 2021.
The attacker pleased the Mariners, helping them win promotion from the National League by scoring 16 goals before being traded to Luton Town.
However, he returned to Blundell Park on a short basis until signing for Barnsley last year.
The Hatters now have a significant decision to make about what to do with him when emphasis shifts elsewhere.
What’s next for the Luton Town man?
Portsmouth won the third-tier title previous season, and they advanced alongside Derby County and Oxford United. They could see McAtee as a way to improve their attacking options.
Millwall had previously signed Macaulay Langstaff in his position from Notts County in League Two.
Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers are looking for fresh players to join their ranks under ex-Birmingham City boss John Eustace.
