BREAKING NEWS: Sabres Sign A New Agent

The 2024 season is now just one step away for the Buffalo Sabres. The squad signed forward Beck Malenstyn to a new contract and declared that they had resolved their issues with one of their restricted free players and avoided arbitration. Elliotte Friedman, an NHL analyst, revealed the signing via his X account.

With an average yearly value of $1.35 million, the $2.7 million contract has a two-year term. Malenstyn was selected by the Sabres from the Washington Capitals in the 2024 NHL Draft. The 26-year-old forward was acquired by the Sabres in exchange for a second-round pick.

Malenstyn should give the Sabres bottom six a rough and fierce touch. At six feet three and more than 200 pounds, he is a monster of a player. He is a hefty player who may provide a welcome contrast to some of the SBA’s more skilled players.

Sabres sign restricted free agent Brandon Biro to two-year contract

With the Capitals, Malenstyn just finished his best professional season. In 81 games with the NHL team, he finished in the bottom six with six goals and 21 points. The first season to play a full season in the NHL was 2023. Prior to playing nine games with the Capitals the previous season, he finished with 10 points in 40 games with the Hershey Bears of the AHL.

For the Sabres, this is a significant step. This offseason, they have three restricted free agents to manage. Malenstyn was a complex case, with the parties resolving their contract negotiations through arbitration. With this completed, the team is down to just two restricted free agents: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, the goalie, and forward Peyton Krebs.
