LATEST UPDATE: Warriors are reportedly ‘firmly in the driver’s seat’ in trade race for All-Star forward

The Golden State Warriors are still in hot pursuit of Utah Jazz standout Lauri Markkanen. The Dubs have identified their target and are determined to land him.

Their pursuit of the All-Star forward, however, has become a little tricky. The San Antonio Spurs are also allegedly interested in Markkanen.

The Golden State Warriors are leading the chase for Lauri Markkanen.
The good news for the Warriors is that they appear to be in first place in the race for Markkanen’s services. According to Spurs source Tim Montemayor, while San Antonio is willing to pay more for Utah’s coveted talent, the Warriors remain the favorites to sign Markkanen.

“The San Antonio Spurs are willing to put in a third first-round pick, and you can tell they are seeing that they have to come with a sense of urgency to get this deal done,” Montemayor said.

“According to what I was told yesterday, the Golden State Warriors are solidly in control of making this trade happen. There is no sense of urgency to complete the transaction now. “The Jazz will drag this out as long as they can.”

The fact that the Jazz have held out until this stage in the offseason demonstrates their reluctance to split ways with Markkanen. They aren’t ruling out a potential blockbuster trade, but you can bet they’re looking for a big haul before even considering trading Markkanen.

At this point, it appears to be a question of who will budge first.
