BREAKING NEWS : Duke basketball dumped from finalists for highly coveted 5-star after

The Blue Devils will not add one of the top elite guards in the class of 2025. The Duke basketball team is still looking for top recruits in the Class of 2025, but 5-star player Meleek Thomas will not be attending the Blue Devils.

Thomas announced his top seven finalists this week, which include UConn, Kansas, Alabama, Pittsburgh, Auburn, Kansas State, and Arkansas. The 6-foot-4 guard is ranked sixth in the senior class by 247Sports Composite, and he recently revealed that he will move from Lincoln Park (Pa.) to Overtime Elite for his senior season.

He has previously made visits to UConn, Pittsburgh, and Auburn, but informed On3 that he plans to visit Arkansas, Alabama, and Kansas.

There is also the chance of traveling to Kansas State. He has not established specific dates for the visits, but expects to complete them in the fall.

Duke pursued Thomas early in his recruitment, making an offer in April 2023, but interest between the two sides has subsequently faded. The Blue Devils were among the top 12 finalists he announced in 2023. Meleek Thomas has stated in previous interviews that he grew up a Duke fan and told Krysten Peek in 2022 that the renowned program was his “dream school.”

His initial group of finalists included Indiana, Miami, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Villanova. Alabama was not in his Top-12, but did in the Top-7.

At the time Duke was interested in Thomas, head coach Jon Scheyer was also looking at three other players in the 2025 class: Cooper Flagg, Cameron Boozer, and Cayden Boozer. Flagg finally reclassified and is now a Duke freshman, while the program continues to actively recruit the Boozer twins.

Duke, excluding Thomas, has 12 offers out to prospects in the Class of 2025 but has yet to get a commitment from one of its targets.
