Joe Lacob talks up about probable future moves. It’s been more than a month into the offseason, and numerous transactions have already occurred. Some of them feature big-name talents, generating headlines and sending basketball fans into a frenzy. Take the Golden Warriors’ most recent move, for example. The team was part of a six-team transaction, headlined by Klay Thompson’s departure to the Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors did receive components in return, but fans continue to worry if another big deal is on the way. Joe Lacob, team owner, had an explanation for that
“Look, we have a full roster right now.” “I think we’re at 14 players,” Lacob told 95.7 The Game’s Ryan Gilbert. “So anything we do now has to be done mostly through trade, and are there transactions that are always discussed? Absolutely. We could make a huge transaction, but we may not.”
While this isn’t a definitive yes or no, Lacob’s admission that trades are “being discussed all the time” may thrill Warriors supporters with potential scenarios in the near future. The team did sign Buddy Hield in the hopes of addressing the void Thompson left, but additional whispers continue to swirl around the Bay Area franchise.
What about a particular Utah Jazz forward?
Lauri Markkanen is currently one of the most well-known Warriors. The Utah Jazz star will surely provide a lot of firepower to the Dubs, but his asking price will also be quite high. Young prospects like Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Moses Moody, as well as potential draft picks, might all be participating.
In short, when it comes to important roster decisions, the Warriors must proceed with caution. On the subject of prudence, Lacob also reminded readers of the key elements to consider while evaluating potential trade opportunities. “Trades is the most difficult way to go because there are 29 other teams all trying to do the same thing.” “They’re all trying to improve, and everyone wants to win a trade,” Lacob explained. “In business, you hear the term ‘win-win.’ It is beneficial to make ‘win-win’ decisions in life, including business, trades, and business transactions. But you can’t force someone to do that. It’s one of those situations where you have to find the appropriate partner at the right moment and come to an agreement that this will work for both parties.”
However, one could argue that the Warriors have nothing to lose. Right now, the roster does not appear to be a top contender. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green remain, but Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, and Jordan Poole have all left the squad over the last two years. If they want to get over last season’s hump, Curry will need another top scorer.
Who knows. Maybe Joe Lacob can execute that massive move and bring Markkanen to San Francisco.
