Portsmouth have signed Republic of Ireland international midfielder Erin McLaughlin on a one-year contract with an option for another year.
Pompey announced the transfer in a statement on their official club website this afternoon.
The 21-year-old joined Portsmouth after leaving SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division club Peamount United. The midfielder has signed with her former club ahead of the 2022 SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division season. She formerly played two seasons for Sion Swifts of the Northern Irish Sports Direct Women’s Premiership.
McLaughlin scored seven goals in the Northern Irish Sports Direct Women’s Premiership in 2020, ranking fourth overall. The midfielder played 63 appearances and scored for her latest club, Peamount United.
Twenty-one goals. McLaughlin made her senior debut for the Republic of Ireland against Albania in the UEFA Women’s Nations League in 2022. Since her debut for The Girls in Green, she has earned two additional caps.
Portsmouth manager Jay Sadler said after adding McLaughlin to his squad, “I’m delighted that Erin, a player whose rapid development we’ve closely monitored, has decided to join us at Portsmouth.”
“Erin’s consistently strong achievements for Peamount and Ireland, at such a young age, have undoubtedly piqued the interest of several clubs.
“She’s a perfect fit for the way we play, with outstanding technical ability, high pressing energy, and a great football brain.
“I am confident we have the perfect environment here to harness her undoubted potential, and we look forward to working closely with her.”
McLaughlin is Portsmouth’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Sophie Barker, Hannah Coan, and Megan Hornby.
