New report seems to end any further talk of Golden State Warriors trading for Lauri Markkanen

For weeks, there has been rumor that the Golden State Warriors are close to making a blockbuster trade for Lauri Markkanen. However, a recent report should put an end to speculation about the Utah Jazz star’s potential relocation. After failing to advance past the NBA Play-In Tournament this spring, a change to the Warriors’ lineup was inevitable. The first major domino to fall this offseason was club legend Klay Thompson’s decision to move to Dallas and play for the Mavericks.

Following the announcement, they signed veterans De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, and Buddy Hield. Then reports circulated that Jazz standout Lauri Markkanen would be available, and Golden State was a leading contender for his services. The one-time All-Star appeared to be a nice fit for the Warriors’ style of play, but the Jazz, as expected, were demanding a high price for their finest player.

According to recent sources, the team was unwilling to part with top prospect Brandin Podziemski or a plethora of draft assets in a trade. However, several questioned if a transaction including selections and another kid, Jonathan Kuminga, could be completed. Well, the team does not appear to be interested in that either.

Golden State Warriors owner has no interest in trading Jonathan Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski

“I’m a big, big believer in Jonathan Kuminga,” Warrior owner Joe Lacob told The Athletic on Friday. “Everyone knows I am a huge JK fan. Similarly, our basketball operations… He made significant progress last year. We anticipate him taking another significant step this year. I expect him to remain a Warrior for a long time.

“I believe JK is in the same boat [as Podziemski]. He has the ability to become an All-Star in this league. The possibilities… (But) I don’t want to give up [Podziemski] or JK. “We love these guys.”
A trade of the Warriors’ limited number of draft selections and other secondary players will not result in a Lauri Markkanen move. And if the owner is big Fans of both burgeoning stars are unlikely to be moved. This should end any speculation about a trade for the Jazz star.
