Morris was picked in the second round by the Lakers in 2011 and appeared in 67 regular-season games for the team. He went on to play for the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Memphis Grizzlies before finishing his four-year NBA career with 38 games for the Nets in 2014-15.
He last played for Gravelines-Dunkerque in 2020, following spells in China, Russia, and the NBA G League.
Morris’ family issued a statement: “With tremendous grief, we announce the demise of our dearly cherished son, Darius Aaron Morris. During this time of transition, his family requests that you respect their privacy and grace.”
Morris, a Los Angeles native, played collegiate basketball at Michigan from 2009 to 2011, averaging 10 points per game in 67 appearances.
The Lakers selected Morris with the 41st overall pick in 2011 and he started 17 games in two seasons in California. He had brief spells with the Sixers, Clippers, and Grizzlies in the 2013-14 season before signing with the Nets the following year.

Former Michigan head coach John Beilein wrote on X: “I am saddened to hear of the death of former Wolverine Darius Morris. In 2010-11, Darius was our starting point guard.
“He was a leader in that program-changing 21-win season, which created the groundwork for Michigan’s next decade of dominance. “RIP, DMo, and condolences to the Morris family.”
