Forward Lauri Markkanen’s name has appeared in NBA trade speculations, but if he has his way, he will remain with the Utah Jazz.
According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, Markkanen wants to finish what the Jazz have begun and be present when things get fantastic.
“Lauri has really adapted to Utah. “His family has relocated to Utah,” Jones stated in an interview with ESPN 700, per RealGM. “Obviously, the Jazz can trade him between now and August 6, and Lauri is aware of that, but Lauri has developed a close relationship with (coach) Will Hardy. And Will has truly discovered a means to advance his profession.”
Markkanen has been linked to the Golden State Warriors, the San Antonio Spurs, and other teams in trade speculations. He becomes available for a contract extension on August 6, sparking suspicion that the Jazz may trade him.
A contract renegotiation and extension would include a six-month trade extension. For example, if he signs an extension on August 6, he will become trade-eligible at the February deadline. If he waits until after that, he will not be trade eligible this season.
