The Cleveland Browns are still interested in extending Amari Cooper, despite recent negotiations that resulted in a modified agreement for this season only.
Cooper skipped required minicamp to sign a new contract. Finally, the two sides agreed to modify his contract for the coming year, totally guaranteeing his income of $20 million for this season and adding $5 million in bonuses. It got Cooper to camp on time and will most likely result in some extra money in his pocket.
“I believe everyone here realizes what Amari has meant to the organization via our fondness for him. He’s a fantastic footballer and a wonderful human being. “He’s a really good professional,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry stated on July 29.
“One of the interesting things is that, assuming Amari is in good health, he has a chance to get to 10,000 yards this year, and he’s probably about a year and a half away from having his – if you look over the course of his career, he’s spent the most time with the Browns relative to other organizations. So all of these things are essential to us. He was an important component of our success last year, and we were relieved to have resolved the matter.”
However, Cooper’s long-term prospects remain unknown. The 30-year-old is set to become a free agent following the season. He has shown an interest in staying in Cleveland, and Berry stated that the current restructure will not prevent them from finalizing an extension with Cooper.
“Nothing that we’ve done would preclude us from, you know, extending him,” Berry told me.
Amari Cooper Willing to Work for the New Deal
Last season, Cooper led the Browns’ offense despite receiving passes from four different quarterbacks. He finished with 1,250 yards on 72 catches and made his seventh Pro Bowl.
It’s difficult to believe Cooper must prove he deserves a new contract. However, if that is the case, he is willing to do it.
“I’m definitely content. Obviously, I wanted greater assurances in the contract, simply because I believe I deserved them. But you don’t always get what you want, but it’s worth noting. “If I have to go earn it, I will,” he remarked.
Another issue for the Browns is that they don’t have a reliable replacement for Cooper if he does not return. Cleveland acquired Jerry Jeudy and promptly agreed to an agreement with the former first-round pick. However, Jeudy has yet to demonstrate his potential as a top choice.
He has 3,053 yards on 211 receptions and 11 touchdowns in his career. Jeudy’s greatest year came in 2022, when he set career highs with 67 receptions for 972 yards and six

Deshaun Watson, the Browns’ quarterback, is especially excited to have Cooper back in the lineup. Watson, who was vocal in his support during Cooper’s holdout, is now looking forward to reconnecting with his favorite target on and off the field.
“I mean, this is very special to have a guy like him, not just the talent and experience that he had for just me and the offense and that receiver group, but just him as a teammate, him as a person, just to have him in that locker room, the energy he brings, everyone, you know, enjoys him,” Watson said on the 26th of July.
The Browns need Watson to have a great year. They’ve made a significant investment in him as a franchise quarterback, and the results have yet to show. So far, Watson has appeared in 12 games, with mixed success. He has thrown for 2,217 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.
The Browns begin their season at home on September 8 against the Dallas Cowboys.
