It has been reported that the Swans are in talks to sign former Stoke City attacker Tyrese Campbell, who is available on a free transfer after being released from the Bet365 Stadium.
Campbell, the son of legendary Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin, was released in the summer after scoring 36 goals for Stoke City in a career that never really took off the Potteries.
The decision to let Campbell go was decided at the end of last season, marking the end of his 164 appearances for the club, including goals in what turned out to be his final season at Stoke as they confirmed their Championship status.
“For us, it was probably the concept to go and have a fresh start, but also for Tyrese because you know he has to go somewhere where he can play every week, play in a system that suits him every week, and have a fresh start where he can possibly fulfill some of that promise that he’s showed. So, it was a difficult decision, but it was made with the best intentions for all parties. “Hopefully, it works out for everyone.”
Campbell joined Stoke from Manchester City at the age of 16 and helped the under-18s reach the FA Youth Cup semi-finals in 2017, before breaking into the senior team. In 2018, he made his senior debut in the Premier League, eventually starting
to keep a shirt under Michael O’Neill after a loan spell at Shrewsbury. The Swans have previously been connected with one Stoke player this summer, Josh Laurent, but it has been believed (though unconfirmed) that Campbell’s physical has already been completed, with only personal terms still to be negotiated. Any move for Campbell will, of course, follow yesterday’s signing of Zan Vipotnik, who was confirmed by the club on a four-year contract shortly after reports surfaced.
This may easily turn into a week in which not one, but two forwards arrive at the club, much-needed additions ahead of the season’s start.
