JUST IN : Despite the contract extension, the Cavs expect to receive calls on Jarrett Allen.

The Cavaliers confirmed last week that center Jarrett Allen had signed a multiyear contract extension. But, well, that doesn’t seem to signify much to the other teams.

According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, competing clubs are likely to continue calling the Cavs about Allen. There’s no big surprise there. Allen’s contract deal is allegedly worth $91 million and lasts three years.

“It’s believed that Allen was essentially obligated to sign the deal before Aug. 6 as a condition of Cleveland extending him at the maximum amount allowed based on the 26-year-old’s current contract,” said Stein. “Allen can be traded on February 2, 2025, four days before the next season’s deadline.

“Rest assured that the Cavaliers’ proverbial phone will continue to ring with Allen interest, as it has for years, given the ongoing belief leaguewide that Evan Mobley and Allen are a suspect long-term fit as a duo.”

That being said, the Cavs fully expect to watch how their core four of Allen, Mobley, Donovan Mitchell, and Darius Garland perform under new coach Kenny Atkinson. According to reports, none of those players will be moved anytime soon.

“We couldn’t be more excited that Jarrett Allen chose to extend in Cleveland for the prime of his career,” Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman said in a statement. “At only 26 years old, Jarrett’s development as a player was boosted when he gained

His first All-Star selection will come in 2022. “He is the anchor of our core group of players, and his presence aligns with our aim of long-term success. Jarrett also reflects our organization’s culture and principles, and we look forward to working together to achieve even greater success.”

Cavs Expected To Receive Calls On Jarrett Allen Despite Contract Extension

Allen, one of the NBA’s greatest centers, averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 2023-24 for the Cavaliers, shooting 63.4% from the field and 74.2% from the free-throw line.

He has career averages of 12.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks for the Brooklyn Nets and Cavaliers.

Cleveland is 139-113 with Allen on the roster.

The New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder were among those connected. According to Allen, even if such teams called the Cavs, they got nowhere. And that would remain unchanged if they phoned again — especially because Allen cannot be dealt until February.
