News from the LA Angels: Luis Rengifo sustained a major injury

There are many unanswered uncertainties surrounding the Los Angeles Angels as they approach the end of the 2024 season. What the Angels really have in mind for the long run is unclear in the wake of a very disappointing trade deadline. Given that Mike Trout will be out for the remainder of the season, it is obvious that the Angels will need to plan their roster for the remainder of the season by looking ahead to 2025, or perhaps further out.

However, a few recent events may make those plans more difficult to carry out. In addition to having another first-round pick who looks to be headed straight to the majors, the team also has to deal with another injury and the possibility of giving a veteran more playing time than they should.

Angels News: Luis Rengifo returns to Illinois with ongoing wrist issues

The fact that the Angels chose not to trade Luis Rengifo was one of the biggest surprises of the trade deadline. Even though Rengifo is still under team ownership through 2025, there was so much interest in him that it seemed like a deal would eventually come together. But a wrist injury just before the deadline appeared to stifle trade talk, and the Angels finally made the decision to hold onto him.

Regretfully, since the deadline, the situation hasn’t gotten any better as Rengifo was placed on the injured list when his wrist flared up against the Mets on Friday. Although the nature of Rengifo’s ailment is unknown, it appears likely that he will be placed on the injured list.

a little bit longer this time since the problem has surfaced twice in the previous month or so.

Angels News: It was no accident that Kevin Pillar remained in Los Angeles at the trade deadline.

The Angels received a lot of flak from supporters for not even trading away every one of their pending free agents by the deadline. It felt objectively horrible to keep guys who are set to hit free agency while the team isn’t winning anything this season, even though there are at least some (not great) grounds for holding onto guys with team control.

There was, nevertheless, more going on with at least one of these players than first appeared. Kevin Pillar intends to retire at the conclusion of his tenure.

Furthermore, it was strange that the Los Angeles Angels wasted his final season by failing to attract a contender for his services. Nevertheless, Pillar disclosed that the team and he agreed to retain him around, especially since the anticipated return for him wasn’t all that spectacular.

Angels News: Christian Moore hasn’t slowed down at all after being promoted to Double-A.

Fans began to wonder how soon Christian Moore would enter the major leagues when the Angels selected him in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

leagues. While some of that may be the typical draft-related restlessness on the part of fans, it is also a legitimate query considering how aggressive LA has been lately with their first-round selections and how well Moore is performing in the minor leagues.

The Angels chose to push him to Double-A right away in order to provide him a greater challenge after he had been making a lot of money in the low minors for a few games following his draft selection. He went 2-4 with a home run in his Double-A debut, so it doesn’t seem like the promotion will slow him down at all.

While it is definitely reasonable to assume that Moore won’t hit.500 the remainder of the way, his impressive pro debut is unlikely to dissipate hopes that he will quickly reach the major leagues.
