Jonathan Owens, Simone Biles’ husband, claims he will support his wife if she chooses to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, despite his desire to start a kid with the USA gymnastics great.
The dust has only just cleared on Biles’ historic performance at the 2024 Games in Paris, when she won three gold medals and one silver to become the most decorated American gymnast of all time.
However, speculation has already shifted to her possibilities of competing in the next Olympics in four years, which the 27-year-old concedes is not a certainty given her age.
During an appearance on TODAY earlier this week, she also said that Owens, her husband of the past year, is keen to have children.
‘He would have had them yesterday if he could have,’ Biles added of the NFL player. While he prefers to prioritise creating a family with her, Owens would still be completely supportive of Biles if she chose to relocate to Los Angeles in 2028.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Jonathan stated that he will accept ‘whatever she decides’ and added, ‘I’m going to support her one thousand percent.’
‘I can’t make that decision for her,’ he said of Simone potentially competing in the next Olympics. ‘It will depend on how she feels, because there is a lot of sacrifice involved.’
Owens and Biles married in April 2023, three years after they met during the Covid-19 pandemic. The pair is also preparing to move into a new house together, with construction on their Houston property nearing completion.
Despite stating that he will be there for her if she moves to Los Angeles in 2028, Owens stated that Biles may prefer to ‘concentrate on life’ and devote her time to raising children with him.
‘If she believes it is time to focus on life… because when you are locked in, you have to make a lot of sacrifices and lose out on a lot,’ he added.
‘That is the one thing she would have to figure out on her own. And, as I previously stated, I am fully committed to supporting her in whatever she chooses to accomplish.
Biles expressed her irritation at being asked what comes next during this summer’s Olympics, but with her Games now over, she
has provided insight into what life might be like in the future.
The gymnastics legend and Owens have been exploring the prospect of having children together, though she is unsure if her future plans involve LA 2028.
‘The next Olympics are at home, so you never know,’ she said to reporters in Paris. ‘But I am growing really old.’
