The Philadelphia Phillies will need to persuade one of their recent signings to stick around. The Philadelphia Phillies have been baseball’s top team for much of the season. Despite some recent problems, they are still the odds-on favourite to win the World Series right now. That could change if they don’t get things out, but this is a club that deserves to be trusted.
Dave Dombrowski has done a tremendous job with this group, and if everything goes as planned, they should be one of the league’s best teams for the next five or so seasons. Not only did he sign contracts with the majority of their top players over the last few years,
He has also done so to align with one another. A significant portion of their core is already locked up, which is as good an indicator as any in the organisation. Even if the Phillies lose this season, they can deal with the situation and go on from there. If they need to add another bat, pitcher, or whatever else, they have the prospects.
However, a few key players on their roster will become free agents in the offseason if they do not sign a new contract. One of them is Carlos Estevez, a new relief pitcher. Philadelphia acquired Estevez after the trade deadline, making a sound investment in one of baseball’s top closers.
He enters free agency during the offseason, and
Will Leitch of MLB.com believes he is one of the most important prospective free agents on the market. “The majority of the Phillies’ core will remain in place for several years. Estévez (their most significant Deadline signing) is one of two key pending free agents in the bullpen, along with 2024 All-Star Jeff Hoffman.”
Keeping him around will most likely be determined by his pitching performance in October. If he pitches well throughout the regular season, that’s fantastic news for the Phillies, but he needs to be at his best when it counts the most. This is a team with one single goal: to win the World Series.
Everything they do during the regular season is fantastic, but if it doesn’t end in a World Series, the year will be remembered as a disappointment. All indications lead to his pitching well in October, but it’s unclear if he’ll do so. There’s a reason they traded for him: he has an amazing 2.09 ERA this season and hasn’t allowed a run in his first four appearances for the team.
