SAD NEWS : Cleveland Guardians have recently confirmed the loss of their key player at the age of 20.

Cleveland — The Cleveland Guardians are grieving the death of Andrés Meléndez, a 20-year-old catching prospect in the organisation who died on Thursday, the team stated.

Meléndez died in Miami on Thursday afternoon, according to the team. His cause of death is yet unknown.

Meléndez joined the Guardians in November 2019 via a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he began his professional baseball career.

Meléndez spent last season with Cleveland’s Low-A Lynchburg team, where he appeared in 73 games.

“Meléndez is remembered by his teammates and friends as a pleasant, respectful, and thoughtful young man with a wonderful smile who left a lasting impression on others. “He will be sorely missed,” the Guardians said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, teammates and those who knew him.”
