Oscar Kl efbomhas announced his retirement from the NHL after seven seasons.
Klefbom, 31, announced his retirement in an interview with local Swedish media Värmlands Folkblad after four years away from professional hockey.
Klefbom has not played since 2021 due to a shoulder injury sustained during his final NHL season. Klefbom told various Swedish media sites that he attempted to return on the ice but was unable to do so without pain.
Klefbom was ranked sixth among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, and the Oilers selected him 19th overall. Klefbom won the IIHF World Junior Championship with Sweden in 2012 and moved to North America for the 2013-14 NHL season.
Klefbom was one of the league’s best defensive players at his peak, and he played an important role in the Edmonton Oilers’ early Connor McDavid years.
Klefbom, 31, told VF that despite the fact that his current playing career is coming to an end, he does not feel old enough to sit at home and enjoy retirement.
Klefbom scored 34 goals, 122 assists, and 156 points in 378 NHL games, including 7 points in 16 playoff games.
