The Chicago Bears are signing undrafted rookie free agent defensive tackle Jaylon Hutchings, who played collegiate ball at Texas Tech, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson of Houston’s KPRC.
Hutchings had made 57 straight starts for the Red Raiders before tearing his meniscus in November. In six years at Texas Tech, he racked up 193 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. He was an academic All-American, a multiple-time team captain, and an honourable mention All-Big 12 selection. He was listed during his senior season at 6′, 305 pounds.
In high school, he earned a first-team All-District selection at defensive line and a second-team All-District pick as a running back.
The Bears have not yet made the move public, but they will have to issue a player or designate someone else as inactive to create space for him. As soon as something happens, we’ll update this page.
