Paul Mullin sends message to his Wrexham replacement Jack Marriott as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s side savour opening-day victory over Wycombe

AHEAD OF TIME?
The fact that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s team was missing their deadly striker Mullin because of back surgery made the triumph all the more remarkable. Jack Marriott, the Welshman’s substitute, played a significant part in helping the team secure the three points.

Mullin was unable to recover in time to play in his team’s first League One match in 19 years, and he missed the entirety of Wrexham’s preseason tour in America. Despite this, Jack Marriott, the Red Dragons’ second goal of the match, easily covered the Welshman’s absence in goal-scoring duties. He and Ollie Palmer displayed excellent link-up play as Wrexham made a grand entrance into League One.

Mullin seems to agree that their campaign was off to a good start and to have shown his appreciation for Marriott on his own Instagram account.

FUTURE ACTIONS FOR WREXHAM AND MULLIN?
Mullin will probably make a comeback to the starting lineup after his surgery, notwithstanding Marriott’s outburst. While Wrexham tries to create an impression in League One this season and while their Hollywood narrative develops, manager Phil Parkinson will be hoping that Marriott will carry on in this manner in the interim.
