It appears that the Detroit Tigers will look into at least one position this offseason. As the Detroit Tigers approach the end of the season, the front office must make some decisions about how to distribute their resources in free agency.
Good news for them is that several players who could potentially be on this squad in the future are either recovering from injuries or preparing to return so that the organisation can conduct a thorough examination.
Still, as the Tigers approach the end of the season, they may already have an idea of which areas they want to focus on.
One appears to be first base.
With their former No. 1 overall pick Spencer Torkelson down at Triple-A due to his extended troubles in the MLB, the glaring vacancy has given Detroit some concern for the future if they don’t believe the bright prospect can figure it out. If the Tigers want to spend money on their first base position, some attractive names should be available on the market, which Evan Woodberry of Michigan Live hopes happens.
“I hope the Tigers pursue a first baseman this winter since it’s the quickest, easiest, and reasonably cheap way.
To improve the offence… “Getting a ‘decent first baseman’ would probably be possible with a one- or two-year contract,” he writes.
Adding a veteran on a short-term contract may be the best choice for this team. That would allow Detroit to immediately improve this position and their entire lineup, while also allowing them more time to work with Torkelson to see if he can develop into the Major League player he was anticipated to be coming out of college.
The Tigers may possibly give the slugger another chance in the MLB to finish off the season.

“The very near future,” Woodberry concludes.
It wouldn’t harm Detroit to promote the 24-year-old to end the season with this bunch, especially because more of their young players are getting into the lineup to show what they can do.
Worst-case scenario, the Tigers discover Torkelson may require additional time before becoming a Major League contributor, providing some assurance in their potential pursuit of a free agent.
However, if he plays well in the minors, they may be able to use the money they were planning to spend on a first baseman to fill a different need.
