JUST IN: Ladd McConkey’s statement from Georgia regarding the state’s national championship win

Ladd McConkey, a former Bulldog, is preparing for his 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, much like Georgia is. Originally selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, McConkey is eager to contribute right away as a rookie to his new squad. The former Georgia wide receiver had a standout collegiate career, winning two national championships, an SEC Championship, and three straight regular season victories. Speaking candidly, McConkey expressed high expectations for the Bulldogs’ forthcoming season.

McConkey declared, “Natty (national title), nothing less.” “We’re making it to the postseason and taking the title.”

The Bulldogs were eliminated from the playoff picture in 2023 after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship game, just short of winning a third consecutive national championship. Georgia and McConkey both had injury-plagued seasons in 2023 and 2021, respectively, but a trip back to the national championship game appears doable for the Bulldogs this year.

“I talk to (my former teammates) every now and then,” McConkey said. “I played with a bunch of them; some guys in my class are still there and younger. They’ve been working. I know coach Smart is getting them ready at

autumnal camp. I’m excited to see them play. That should be enjoyable.

In the opening week of college football this year, Georgia will host Clemson at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. McConkey played for the Georgia squad that defeated Clemson 10-3 in the season’s first game in 2021.

McConkey’s amazing Georgia career will live on in perpetuity. Like the tale of Georgia great Stetson Bennett, McConkey was a low-class talent who Georgia attempted to draft after high school. McConkey quickly established himself as a dangerous passing option and deserved the opportunity to be a significant offensive player in 2021. From there  point on, the rest was history and now McConkey is shaping up to be an offensive piece that the Chargers will lean on this season.
