LATEST NEWS : Steelers OC Arthur Smith expresses gratitude for Falcons run

Arthur Smith appreciates his fresh start with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Arthur Smith, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive coordinator, is happy and grateful for his first season with the organisation. After three tumultuous years as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach, a fresh start is likely to be welcomed as he seeks new ways to establish his offensive concepts. During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Smith discussed the distinctions between his Steelers employment and the ones learnt in Atlanta:

“They’re distinct roles, and depending on your work description, you have to know yourself and the numerous lessons learnt, which has been refreshing. When it comes to calling the game, you realise what you don’t have to worry about. You get to concentrate on the offence. Nothing except time to be creative and see a lot of films.”

Smith received harsh criticism for how he used and developed his top offensive weapons in Atlanta. For example, the Falcons only gave Bijan Robinson one carry in Week 7, and despite being unwell, he did not make the injury report. Smith was eventually fined $25,000 for the incident. After being hired in Pittsburgh, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was keen to define Smith’s role to avoid any media turmoil.

“I’ve competed against him over the years, in Atlanta and Tennessee. “We had a lot of mutual connections from his time in Washington,” Tomlin said Troy Montgomery of Steelers Depot.

“I know what he puts into the work, professionally speaking, and he has good footage. “I’ve competed against him in the stadium, so there aren’t many unknowns about his abilities,” the Steelers head coach added.

Smith’s bread and butter has been shaping his teams’ running game, such as when he was the Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator in 2020 and Derrick Henry carried for 2,027 yards and 17 TDs. Smith, the Steelers’ offensive coordinator, will maximise the performance of Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. The tandem rushed for more than 1,800 yards and 12 touchdowns. Following a disappointing season in Pittsburgh, there are hopes for a recovery season. The quarterback battle between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields has dominated offseason coverage. Smith has praised Fields, and the Steelers would not have signed Wilson unless Smith had given his permission. Pittsburgh has yet to make an official determination on who will start Week 1.

Tomlin has recently criticised Fields following

the Steelers’ first preseason game after some poor center-quarterback exchanges resulted in fumbles.

The Steelers’ next preseason game is at home against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, August 17, at 7:00 p.m. EST.
