BREAKING NEWS: Mark Robins’ pre-Oxford United Trade speech

Although there were a lot of changes before the new season began, Mark Robins would have been optimistic about his Coventry team winning their opening game against Stoke City.

Instead, the Midlands team was left to lick their wounds ahead of EFL Cup play after a late goal from Lewis Baker consigned them to a 1-0 defeat at the bet365 Stadium.

Coventry faced off against Bristol City, another Championship team, for the second time in three seasons, and triumphed this time.

Ellis Simms’s second-half performance proved to be the difference at Ashton Gate, and the Robins were also able to provide plenty of players who did not start the match with game time.

At the CBS Arena, Robins will now aim to resume their winning ways. At the close of the 2023–24 season, Coventry had lost their last three home games.

Oxford, on the other hand, has had a fantastic start to the new campaign, maybe surpassing Des Buckingham’s expectations in light of the arrivals and departures during the transfer window.

Oxford may have thought they could beat Norwich City, but their 2-0 triumph was a clear declaration of purpose as they look to go beyond just filling out the roster in the second division.

Although the EFL Cup may be seen as a sideshow to more significant matters, a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United has maintained a positive momentum going into this match.

Buckingham will believe that Oxford’s ability to go undefeated in their final five away games in 2023–24 will serve them well as they attempt to spring a surprise.
