‘A big boost’: O’Neil says ‘no concerns’ around £60k-a-week star’s fitness ahead of Arsenal

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has provided an encouraging update on one crucial player’s fitness ahead of the season’s opening day.

Gary O’Neil is counting down the hours until Wolves’ Premier League start against Arsenal on Saturday. The Old Gold will go to the capital for the first competitive encounter of the 2024/25 season, facing a major challenge against the Gunners.

While Arsenal will be the clear favourites heading into the game, Wolves have received a significant boost ahead of the clash at Emirates Stadium.

Gary O’Neil delivers Matheus Cunha’s injury update ahead of Wolves’ meeting with Arsenal.
During a news conference prior of the journey to the Emirates, O’Neil provided a long-awaited fitness update on Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury during the Old Gold tour of the United States, raising concerns among supporters so close to the season’s start.

As reported by journalist Liam Keen on X, O’Neil revealed that the highly valued forward is ready to face Arsenal.

“Cunha is fine and ready to go.” He fought hard to get back, and he’s feeling great. “There are no concerns about him, which is a huge plus for us,” Keen said.

The manager is correct in describing Cunha’s return as a “big boost” for Wolves, as the forward will be ready to cause the hosts issues on Saturday afternoon.Gary O'Neil reveals Wolves have been handed 'big boost' ahead of Arsenal clash

Cunha is extremely crucial to Wolves.
Last season marked a watershed moment for Cunha, who has truly found his footing playing in O’Neil’s free-flowing offence.

The £60k-a-week Brazil international was used in the number 10 position throughout pre-season before his injury, and his comeback is now a significant boost for how Wolves could line up on the first day. Cunha produced 19 Premier League goals last season, not only establishing himself as a consistent scorer with 12 goals, but also as a key creator with seven assists.

Wolves will be more confident of their assignment in North London with Cunha’s return, as the 25-year-old is capable of causing difficulties for Mikel Arteta’s side with his direct and electric style of play.
