The Miami Heat has earned plenty of national television appearances during the first five seasons of the Jimmy Butler era through its deep playoff runs. But after an early playoff exit in the first round last season and no significant upgrades through free agency or trades this summer, the Heat isn’t on track to play many nationally televised games this upcoming season. On Thursday afternoon, the NBA released the 2024-25 regular-season schedule that includes 80 (40 home and 40 away) of the 82 games for each team because two games from Dec. 9-16 remain up in the air until the group stage of the league’s in-season tournament plays out. On October 23 at 7:30 p.m., the Heat will play their home opener of the 2018 season against the Orlando Magic at Kaseya Centre. It won’t be broadcast on national television, much like a lot of the Heat’s upcoming games. The Heat were originally slated to play 16 games on national television when the schedule was first announced last season. This season, they will play seven games on national television. The Heat will be on national television seven times this season. Five of those appearances will be on ESPN (Jan. 15 at Los Angeles Lakers, Feb. 23 at Milwaukee Bucks, March 5 at Cleveland Cavaliers, March 17 at New York Knicks, and April 2 at Boston Celtics); the other two will be on TNT (Nov.
Bucks on January 26 and Jan. 23). Six games for the Heat are now scheduled to air on NBA TV: Nov. 2 in Mexico City vs. Washington Wizards, Dec. 4 at Lakers, Dec. 28 at Atlanta Hawks, Jan. 6 at Sacramento Kings, March 14 at Boston Celtics, and April 7 at Philadelphia 76ers. The Heat’s extensive road trip to start the season is another noteworthy feature of their schedule. The Heat will spend seven of the next eight games away from Kaseya Centre after hosting three of their first four regular season games there. Eight of the Heat’s twelve games will be played away from home.

This stretch includes a long six-game trip that spans 12 days and features matchups against the Phoenix Suns on Nov. 6, Denver Nuggets on Nov. 8, Minnesota Timberwolves on Nov. 10, Detroit Pistons on Nov. 12, and ends with back-to-back games against the Indiana Pacers on Nov. 15 and 17. Making things even tougher for the Heat early on is the fact that five of the games on that six-game trip come against opponents that made the playoffs last season. That six-game trip that begins in Phoenix is tied for the longest of the season for the Heat. Miami also has a six-game West Coast trip on its schedule that begins on Jan. 6 against the Kings and continues against the Golden State Warriors on The Heat’s longest homestand of the upcoming season is five games, and both of those stretches are in March; in total, 12 of the Heat’s 17 games in March will take place at Kaseya Centre. The Heat’s All-Star break is scheduled for February 14–20, with the 2025 NBA All-Star Game taking place in San Francisco on February 16; the Heat’s regular season concludes on April 13 with a matchup against the Wizards at Kaseya Centre. On September 30, the Heat will hold their annual media day. On October 1, the Heat will begin training camp at Baha Mar in the Bahamas.

Here are some other things to know regarding the Heat’s 2024-25 schedule: ▪ Within the first few weeks of the regular season, the Heat will see Caleb Martin, a familiar face. Martin signed a free agent contract with the 76ers this summer after leaving the Heat.
The Heat’s first matchup of the season against Martin and the 76ers comes on Nov. 18 in Miami. ▪ The Heat faces the defending NBA champion and rival Celtics four times this season — Dec. 2 at Celtics, Feb. 10 vs. Celtics, March 14 vs. Celtics and April 2 at Celtics. ▪ The Heat has 15 back-to-back sets on its schedule this season, which is two more than the 13 back-to-backs that Miami played last regular season. ▪ The six Eastern Conference teams that the Heat is currently scheduled to face only three times this regular season: the Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets, Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Knicks and Toronto Raptors. The Heat hosts the Nets, Bulls and Raptors only once and makes just one trip to face the Cavaliers, Pistons and Knicks. The Heat faces every other East team four times, for two home games and two road games. The Heat plays every Western Conference team twice, for one home game and one road game. ▪ After playing on Christmas, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Easter last season, the Heat has most holidays off this season. While the Heat will host the Pelicans on New Year’s Day, the Heat is idle on Christmas, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Easter this upcoming season. But Easter 2025 is on April 20 after the regular season ends, so there’s a chance the Heat could end up playing a playoff game on Easter. In addition, the Heat does not have a game scheduled on Halloween. The Heat is also idle on Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 9. ▪ As part of the NBA’s in-season tournament, the Heat’s four group play games that will also count as regular-season games are: Nov. 12 at Pistons, Nov. 15 at Pacers, Nov. 26 vs. Bucks and Nov. 29 vs. Raptors. ▪ As for conflicts with the Miami Dolphins on the Heat’s regular-season schedule, the Heat and Dolphins are currently set to play on the same day four times: Nov. 17 when the Heat is in Indianapolis to take on the Pacers and the Dolphins host the Las Vegas Raiders, Nov. 24 when the Heat hosts the Dallas Mavericks and the Dolphins host the New England Patriots, Dec. 8 when the Heat hosts the Cavaliers and the Dolphins host the New York Jets, and Dec. 29 when the Heat is in Houston to face the Rockets and the Dolphins are in Cleveland to play the Browns. The Heat and Miami Hurricanes play on the same day two times: Oct. 26 when the Heat travels to Charlotte to face the Hornets and the Hurricanes host the Florida State Seminoles, and Nov. 2 when the Heat is in Mexico City to play the Wizards and the Hurricanes host the Duke Blue Devils. ▪ The Heat’s Nov. 2 matchup against the Wizards will mark the third time in franchise history that the Heat plays a regular-season game in Mexico City. The contest will serve as a home game for the Wizards and a road game for the Heat, so it will not impact the Heat’s total of regular-season home games played in Miami. ▪ The Heat closes the regular season with a bunch of home games, as 18 of its final 26 regular-season games will be played at Kaseya Center.
