The captain of the Colorado Avalanche has not been with the team since their 2022 Stanley Cup victory. Gabriel Landeskog has not yet been added back to the Avalanche roster after two full seasons have passed.
During their Cup season, Landeskog only appeared in 51 games before needing his first knee surgery. After his recovery, he was well enough to play in all 20 of the postseason games that season. Landeskog missed the whole 2022–2023 season due to a second knee surgery after their championship run.
Landeskog will miss his second consecutive season due to cartilage replacement surgery, the Avalanche confirmed prior to the 2023–24 season starting.
There have been legitimate worries that Landeskog has already played his last game in the NHL after losing two seasons in his peak.
Landeskog hopes to make a comeback early in the 2024–25 season, according to Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar.
According to NHL.com, Bednar stated, “He’s trying to make a return here sometime near the start of the season.” “That would be a huge boost for us if that goes well.”
In the 2023–24 season, Landeskog went back to skating with his teammates, but he was never cleared to suit up for a game. Landeskog might be able to make a comeback, according to Bednar, if the Avalanche advanced far enough in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
All hopes of an Avalanche come to an end when they fell to the Dallas Stars in the second round.
Landeskog intends to return, but it doesn’t seem like it will be on opening night in 2024–25. His objective is thought to be sometime soon after the season begins.
“It’s simply when he’s well enough to continue pushing himself and move forward,” Bednar stated. “Now that a long period has passed, there’s no hurry. All of it is simply with what he feels at ease with.
When it comes to his anticipated return date, Landeskog left himself plenty of freedom, stating in May that he plans to return “between mid-September and start of April.”
Bednar thinks Landeskog might make a comeback to the Avalanche starting lineup in the first two weeks of the 2024–25 campaign. The Avalanche are a formidable club that intends to challenge for the Stanley Cup once more. Returning their commander would not only improve their skills but also greatly increase the group’s confidence.
