BREAKING NEWS : Jeremy Swayman Updates Contract Negotiations With Bruins

Jeremy Swayman believes a deal can be reached with the Boston Bruins. After three years of splitting the net with Linus Ullmark, the Boston Bruins are ready to give 25-year-old Jeremy Swayman full-time starting goaltending duties. The Bruins traded Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this offseason and are likely to give Swayman the starting role.

Before Swayman can make his first start in the 2024-25 season, he and the Bruins must agree on a new deal. Swayman remains a restricted free agent, despite having plenty of time to reach an agreement and being arbitration-eligible.

Swayman and the Bruins went to arbitration last year, and the ace goaltender promised never to go through it again.

Without an arbitration case filed this time, Swayman and the Bruins will have to reach their own accord. Previous reports have indicated that the two parties are “not close” to signing an agreement, but that does not imply all hope is lost.Bruins still mulling Game 2 goalie despite Jeremy Swayman gem - ESPN

Swayman joined NESN and was asked about his discussions and whether he believes he would get things completed by the start of the season.

“There’s a lot of confidence,” Swayman added. “I say that because I’ve treated it like business as usual this year.”

Knowing what he went through last year, Swayman has a fresh perspective this year and is prepared for whatever the negotiation process may bring.

“I know that it will take care of itself with time,” Swayamn stated. “All I can control is how I’ll improve as a goaltender for the Boston Bruins this season. That’s all I’m thinking about, and I’m confident everything will work out.”

Swayman was awarded a one-year contract worth $3.475 million at arbitration last year. According to some early calculations, Swayman’s new contract would make him one of the NHL’s richest goaltenders.

Swayman is expected to sign a contract worth at least $6 million against the salary cap, if not more. Swayman’s $6 million salary would place him among the NHL’s top ten highest-paid goaltenders.

Swayman is enthused about the Bruins in 2024-25, regardless of how the discussions progress. They’ll want to return as a stronger club and aspire for something spectacular, and their starting goaltender is excited to be part of the journey.
