Georgia football player Smael Mondon had his reckless driving charges dismissed, ending one of many Bulldogs-related driving mishaps in recent years. According to sources, the reckless driving and racing charges filed against Georgia Bulldogs football player Smael Mondon have been dismissed.
Instead, his counsel worked out a plea deal with the prosecutor in which Mondon agreed to plead guilty to driving too fast for the conditions while the other charges were withdrawn. Mondon also finished a victim impact course and paid a $500 fine.
Mondon was initially apprehended late on the night of July 10, after cops reported seeing two automobiles going “at a high rate of speed” and racing each other.
According to the original report, Mondon was speeding at 75 mph in a 40 mph zone, denied racing, and said he didn’t know who the driver next to him was. The other driver was identified by police as Demello Jones, a Georgia freshman defensive back.
Mondon was arrested, placed into the Athens-Clarke County jail, and released on bond.
Mondon appeared in 13 games for Georgia last season, starting 11 at linebacker and finishing second on the team with 68 stops.
