The Spurs’ winning tradition is built upon a sophisticated and robust culture. San Antonio has been a squad to be respected ever since the days of Artis Gilmore and George Gervin. After guys like David Robinson and Sean Elliott, the greatest power forward of all time, Tim Duncan, backdoored them.
Victor Wembanyama adds to Alamo City’s legacy of magnificent large men, yet despite their importance, they receive adequate media attention. Certain players should be recognised because they contributed to a winning team or in other ways left their mark. San Antonio’s supporters have consistently shown their affection for every player on the team, so this is only
simply preserving the culture. These Spurs helped usher in historic eras. George Hill (2008–2011) Coach Popovich talked about his affinity for the all-around point guard from IUPUI, who made an impact on everyone in the city with his work ethic and positive outlook. That trade resulted in the draft selection of Kawhi Leonard, and although the Klaw’s story ended poorly, he helped this organisation reach the pinnacle once again after seven years without a championship. He was the Finals MVP and twice won DPOY while wearing a San Antonio uniform. None of it would have been possible without George Hill.
DeRozan, DeMar (2018–2021)
I know that DeRozan’s inclusion on this list seems strange. However, none of his six all-star choices occurred when he was wearing silver and black. That resulted in part from a loaded Western Conference, but it also stemmed from his difficulty adjusting to his new situation. The initial step towards a reconstruction that resulted in the acquisition of SA Victor Wembanyama was the Spurs’ trade of him to the Chicago Bulls. About how vital that is, not much more needs to be stated.
