This offseason, the Buffalo Bills re-signed veteran Mitch Trubisky to serve as Josh Allen’s backup quarterback.
However, after troubles in training camp and the first two preseason games, several Bills reporters believe the team may need to find new backups. Trubisky failed to move the ball in the team’s 9-3 preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 17, completing only 9-of-13 passes for 86 yards, no touchdowns, and one ugly interception.
The performance prompted WGR 550 reporter Joe DiBiase to speculate that the Bills could bring in former rival quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
“If no starting job becomes available to him via injury, Ryan Tannehill would be a significant upgrade for the Bills at backup QB,” DiBiase told X.TV. “This is a 3 win football team if Trubisky had to play.”The Bills may face further pressure to acquire another quarterback after Trubisky was forced to depart Saturday’s game with a knee injury. The seriousness of the damage is currently unknown.

The former Miami Dolphins quarterback is still a free agent after his four-year, $118-million contract with the Tennessee Titans expired. The 36-year-old does not appear to be in a hurry to join a new squad, telling the “Scoop City” podcast in July that he is waiting for the proper opportunity to present itself.
“Right now, I believe it will depend on the situation,” Tannehill explained. “At this point, I’ve been fortunate to play 12 years and be where I am, so I’m not going to keep adding years on years.
