A 51-year-old man died in an incident involving a Peugeot and an HGV on a major route near outside Totton. At 3.16 a.m., police officers responded to an accident on the A326, near the Monkton Lane junction, involving a lorry and a silver Peugeot 107.
For around 12 hours, the road was closed in both directions between Fletchwood Road and the A35 Hunters Hill.
The driver of the car, a 51-year-old Christchurch man, was pronounced dead on the scene. His family has now been informed.
The road was reopened between Fletchwood Road and the A35 Hunters Hill around 3.15 p.m.
As part of their investigation, police are now looking to speak with anyone in the vicinity who spotted the silver Peugeot with a registration plate ending in JHZ in the early hours of today morning, or who was passing through the area about 3.15am.
A police spokesperson stated: “We are specifically requesting that people in the Totton and New Milton areas check any Ring Doorbell, dash cam or CCTV material for any sightings of a vehicle matching this description.
“Anyone with information is asked to phone 101 and provide the reference 44240247966. Alternatively, you can submit information online.
