Arsenal transfer news comes as Brentford’resigned’ over losing Ivan Toney this summer, but the Gunners appear to be out of the running. Arsenal transfer target Ivan Toney will be one of the most sought-after players in the final ten days of the summer transfer window. The striker is expected to depart Brentford before August 30, with several clubs keen.
Toney has 12 months left on his current deal and has considered leaving Brentford. Chelsea has also been linked with an interest, but the upcoming signing of Joao Felix will put an end to that pursuit. Toney’s future came under scrutiny again on Sunday after he was left out of Brentford’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Thomas Frank revealed that the club made the choice based on transfer interest. With less than a week until the transfer window closes, the Bees’ attitude on the England international appears to be changing. According to The Times, the Premier League club are resigned to losing their talisman and ‘expect’ Toney to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. Brentford are seeking to get £50 million for the striker.
Al-Ahli, who presently have Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Edouard Mendy, had a £35 million bid rejected by the Bees last week. It is currently believed that negotiations have progressed and personal terms have been finalised.
With fewer than two weeks left in the transfer market and the focus on getting Mikel Merino, Arsenal appear to have accepted that Toney will not be signed. A £50 million package is unlikely to be sanctioned by the Gunners, given that Merino has already cost around £30 million.
