GOOD NEWS: Hornets, Keyontae Johnson Agree To Contract

According to Keyontae Johnson’s management, Priority Sports, he has reached a contract agreement with the Charlotte Hornets.

The deal’s conditions are unclear, although it is probably either partially or completely guaranteed.

 

The 24-year-old Johnson averaged 1.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in nine games as a rookie with the Oklahoma City Thunder last season. Johnson is 6-foot-5. He signed a two-way contract with OKC almost a year ago, and he was the 50th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

 

He played the most of his career with the OKC Blue of the G League, where he averaged 17.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 39% shooting from three-point range.

 

The Hornets possess an available roster place in addition to an Johnson is expected to compete for an open two-way spot; he may also be on an Exhibit 10 “make-good” deal for training camp. The Hornets currently have 14 players on standard contracts, 13 of which are guaranteed. “Charlotte and Oklahoma City’s paths have crossed quite a bit during the last year, thanks to the deadline move that sent Gordon Hayward to the Thunder,” wrote Chase Gemes of SI.com. “That trade brought four former players to the Hornets: Aleksej Pokusevski, Tre Mann, Vasilije Micic, and Davis Bertans. Only Mann and Micic will remain in Charlotte next season, but the addition of Johnson brings the total back up.” The Hornets hired coach Charles Lee this offseason after finishing 21-61.  have not made the playoffs since the 2015-16 season.
