According to Globo, West Ham have accepted Corinthians’ one-season loan offer for defender Luizao.
According to the Brazilian media [21 August], the Hammers are currently debating the prices and percentages of the purchase option that might be included in the 22-year-old’s contract. The two parties have until September 2 to consummate the transaction, even though the Premier League transfer season expires on August 30, and Brazil’s window closes early next month.
Is Luizao leaving West Ham United after two seasons?
Since arriving at the London Stadium in December 2022, the Brazilian centre-back has made little of an impression, spending the majority of his time with the younger teams.
He has made 43 Under-21 appearances and scored five goals, however he was never promoted to the first team under David Moyes’ tenure.
Luizao has yet to make his first-team debut, and he may never do so if his loan stay in Brazil is successful and Corinthians exercise the buy clause in his contract.
Before moving to England, the 22-year-old showed plenty of promise, appearing 20 times for Sao Paulo in Brazil’s top league and scoring once.
However, with other academy products rising through the ranks and Julen Lopetegui providing much-needed defensive reinforcement to the squad, senior minutes will be limited this season. Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo have been signed to bolster the backline, while Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Nayef Aguerd are either on their way out, have failed their medicals, or want to go.
Luizao is one of the recruits from South America, Tim Steidten’s preferred scouting destination, that has failed to work out at the London Stadium, but they might still collect a fair amount in return if his loan
