The Baltimore Orioles have placed one of their top pitchers on the disabled list. The Baltimore Orioles are in the midst of a critical series of games as they enter the final stretch of the regular season. They are also in a heated battle with the rival New York Yankees for the American League East division championship.
Unfortunately, the Orioles have experienced a significant injury loss. Baltimore has had to place standout pitcher Zach Eflin on the 15-day injured list due to shoulder soreness.
In addition to the Eflin move, the Orioles have placed Keegan Akin on the paternity list. Cade Povich and Dillon Tate have been promoted from Triple-A Norfolk to fill the open roster positions.
Eflin was one of the major trades that Baltimore made ahead of the MLB trade deadline to improve their prospects of competing for a World Series this year. Since being acquired by the Orioles, Eflin has been exceptional. He has made four starts for Baltimore, going 4-0 with a 2.13 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 12.5 K/BB ratio, and 25.1 innings pitched.
Obviously, losing that kind of output is a huge blow to the Orioles rotation.
Hopefully, he can attack the recovery process.
Get back on the pitch as soon as possible. Missing him for two weeks will be difficult, but Povich has the opportunity to step up and prove himself capable of becoming a major league starter. Baltimore has a 73-53 record entering Tuesday’s MLB action and is only half a game behind the Yankees in the division race.
