BREAKING NEWS : Former Lightning Forward Still Searching for New Home

With September being right around the corner, most of this year’s top NHL free agents have found their new homes. While this is the case, there are still a few interesting players who remain unsigned this deep into the summer.

One of the most notable remaining free agents just so happens to be somebody Tampa Bay Lightning fans know incredibly well – Tyler Johnson.

It is a bit surprising that Johnson has yet to land a contract at this juncture of the offseason. While the 34-year-old is not necessarily a top-six forward at this point in his career, he is still a solid top-nine forward who provides decent secondary scoring. Thus, there certainly is a chance that he could land a one-year deal or professional tryout (PTO) contract soon.

Johnson spent this past season with the Chicago Blackhawks, posting 17 goals and 31 points in 67 games. With numbers like these, he could be a solid bargain addition for teams needing a bit more scoring in their bottom six. This is especially so when noting that he can play both down the middle and on the wing. In addition, he comes with plenty of playoff experience, as he is a two-time Stanley Cup winner.

Thus, Johnson is a player fans should keep an eye on as we approach training camp. It seems quite possible that he will find a landing spot, but time will tell.
