The Chicago Bears announced on Saturday that they had acquired Chris Williams. ESPN’s Courtney Cronin reports that the Bears sent a 2025 sixth-round pick and a 2025 seventh-rounder to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the veteran defensive tackle and a 2025 seventh-rounder. The Bears have been busy this weekend strengthening their defence; on Friday, they sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Chicago Bears for edge-rusher Darrell Taylor. Williams, 26, has just 13 NFL appearances since signing a
both a safety and a forced fumble.
A void was left in Chicago’s defensive line’s interior by Zacch Pickens’ injury, and the Bears chose to address it after Williams showed enough promise in the preseason.
Regarding Taylor, in his three NFL seasons with the Seahawks, the 27-year-old has racked up 21.5 sacks—a respectable total for a player who was primarily a rotating option. Even though Matthew Judon was moved to the Atlanta Falcons and the Bears did not win the sweepstakes, having more presence on the edge felt like a pressing need.
The Bears filled that need with Taylor; they’ll be hoping he can continue to produce in a bigger role. Williams and Taylor are both low-risk, upside additions for Chicago; if they work out, though, they’ll add to general manager Ryan Poles’ already amazing offseason. Poles brought in draft picks Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze, free agent D’Andre Swift, and trade acquisition Keenan Allen, among other players.
